1. Policy

Patient’s Rights

  • Patient has the right to access health care and treatment regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin, religion, nationality as well as social, physical and mental status.
  • Patient has the right to be treated with respect, dignity and consideration at all times.
  • Patient has the right to receive care in a safe environment.
  • Patient has the right to receive information about investigations, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
  • Patient has the right to participate along with healthcare provider in making decision for treatment.
  • Patient has the right to involve family members or other nominated persons in making decision for treatment.
  • Patient has the right to seek second opinion at their own expense.
  • Patient has the right to refuse treatment and to be informed of the medical consequences of that refusal.
  • Patient’s informed consent shall be obtained before any procedure is carried out. In the case of a minor, the consent shall be obtained from the parents or the legal guardians.

Patient’s Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with healthcare provider to manage his/her health.
  • Patient is responsible to provide complete and accurate personal and health information when required by healthcare provider.
  • Patient is encouraged to ask questions if he/she does not understand the purpose and cost of any proposed treatment before accepting it.
  • Patient should follow the advice and treatment determined by the health professional responsible for his/her care.
  • Patient should treat IMU staff, other patients and visitors with courtesy and respect.
  • Patient should keep any appointments and inform as early as possible if unable to do so.
  • Patient should not ask healthcare providers to provide inappropriate/ incorrect documentation.
  • Patient is responsible to inform the staff if he/she wishes to leave the premise.
  • Patient is responsible to promptly pay for all services rendered.

2. Policy statement for zero tolerance to abuse

Our people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect at all times. We do not tolerate any verbal and physical abuse from other staff or the public. Please refrain from such behaviour or future services can be denied and legal action may be taken.
